SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The H. M. Grissom Enrichment and Development Corporation (HMGEDC) began in the mind of the Rev. Dr. Harvey M. Grissom. As pastor of the First Glory Missionary Baptist Church, Dr. Grissom's spiritual concern for the parishioners followed a natural metamorphosis as he thought to address and promote literacy and educational advancement within the church and its surrounding community. The HMGEDC stands upon the belief that a secular education can only be fully complete when it's balanced with spiritual instruction.

THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The scholarship program was developed to provide financial assistance to young men and women who are committed to furthering their spiritual, social and academic development. To assist these young people, the corporation provides financial aid through its scholarship program.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

All applicants must be residents of Metropilitan Detroit,MI , graduate or upcoming graduate of a Detroit high school (public, private or parochial) or currently attending college during the award year. All applicants must attend a Church Sunday School in the greater Detroit Metropolitan area. All applicants must be law abiding and drug free.

All applicants must also meet the following criteria:

• Plan to attend a fully accredited college or university..
• Meet all admission requirements of the college or university.
  
• Plan to pursue a degree in public or business administration, mathematics, the sciences, or any other approved discipline.
  
• Provide evidence of enrollment or acceptance to the college or university.
  
• Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or " better (consideration is given to students with lower grade point averages when the potential to succeed and the determination to achieve are evident).
  
• Complete a scholarship application.
  
• Provide documentation of grades. (transcript or last report card)
  
• Provide an original, typewritten, double-spaced essay.
  
• High school students must provide three letters of recommendation. One letter must be from a school official, i.e. teacher, counselor or administrative staff.
  

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS/DISBURSEMENT

Scholarship awards will take place in August with an accompanying ceremonial gathering of members of the recipient's local church, family and friends.

Please note: Applications must be either typewritten or printed legibly in ink. Illegible applications will not be considered.
